Many of us need help with DCC! I’m a 30 year modeler but a DCC newbie, so don’t feel alone, guy!
Good tip above!
Two suggestions>
(1) Look into buying Digitra’x book on DCC. Excellent resource, that applies to other brands, not just Digitrax.
(2) Check out Joe Fugate’s “Siskyou” video series. Volumes 1 through 3 are now available. You can order on line or get them through your local hobbyshop.
Hopefully Joe will chime in and can give you far better details than I can.
Take your time read it thoroughly and digest the info. I am sure after reading Joe’s thread if you have any specific questions they will be answered willingly by many here for you.
The key to this MR business is read, read and read some more, knowledge will be a powerful tool which will serve you well over time.
If your hobby shop is a good one, then 170 aint too bad. If I had a good shop here, instead of one full of A holes, I’d buy from them. But since that’s not the case, I’m an Ebay hound. I got my Zephyr for 149. Besides being A holes, my hobby shop wanted 219 for the Zephyr.

Check out fshobby.com for the Zepher set, they have it for $150.00 plus only $4.00 shipping. I have done business with them, and they are very good. I have bought many decoders from them, and I have met them at train shows also. I don’t work for them, just good prices and service.
hey railroad monkey
as i see it sometimes you get alot more help from your l h s when you buy from them
as said before IF THEY ARE COOL try to help a local business and you should be rewarded with all the help you will ever need as for the gs4 decoder… if you dont want extra lites and functions the dh123 will do just as well welcome to m r r and as always have fun

I agree with ukguy. Take your time to read heaps. I know at 12 it’s easy to be in a hurry, but reading about model railroading is just as much fun as doing it, more sometimes because you don’t screw up or burn yourself when reading [:)]
