I NEED HELP WITH MY BACHMANN BIG HAULER!

I have recently purchased a bachmann baldwin industrial mogul 2-6-0 locomotive. There seems to be alot ofproblems with it, although i brought it brand new. If you have any advice on the folllowing problems then please reply:

  1. Smoke unit leaks at bottom.
  2. Sound in tender switch is loose and broken.

The loco runs well but the tender wheels squeek. if you have any advice on lubrication then please reply. I know i am only 13 , but i would like to enjoy my garden trains like you.

Please reply on this forum or email me at jedijake@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks [:)]

Leaking smoke unit? too much fluid, only supposed to be a few drops.

As for the broken tender issues…

I’d post this on the Bachmann website, they can more directly offer advice or put you in contact with the parts department

try: www.bachmanntrains.com

Good luck

If you purchased it from a store, take it back and tell them what’s wrong. Especially since it’s new. If you purchased from the LHS (local hobby shop) all the better because they’ll hopefully have a “train guy” who can give you some help right there.

Well, unless the pot is cracked, the only way this will happen is if you overfill or miss the pot.
5-10 drops only!
How is the switch broken?
You talking about the rotating knob on the back deck?
Is the nut just loose?
Plastic-compatible lube on axle journals.
Check to make sure the coupler spring is not stuck on top of the rear axle.
Make sure all the axles are in the journals.

I actualy prefer 5w-30 motor oil for sqeaky axels.

Just be sure it’s plastic compatable.

and, it’s not.
For sure.

Hi thanks for all your help. i will remeber to put only a small amount of fluid in next time.
the switch in the tender id loose and then you turn it on with the click it goes wonky and is always in wrong place.

A little Labelle light duty oil works wonders on squeaky axles.

If I recall, pull the knob (water jug?) straight up, tighten nut, re-install.

By the way, did you see the Big Hauler on Ebay that was reserved for $1400.00?? Was it made of pure gold?

Or at least the seller thought so.

03jtud,

The switch is probably loose so that it rotates along with the shaft when you turn the knob. Pull off the knob (water can) and with a pair of pliers tighten the nut. Don’t be afraid to try a few of these things on your own, it’s only way your going to learn.
