Welcome to the forum and the hobby,

For our first selection you must scroll down the page a little before you come to the good stuff. It doesn’t look all that promising at first, but this site will keep you quite busy once you get into it. It is;

http://www.urbaneagle.com/pers/bookmarks/bookmarks030711.html

Next we have something to wet your whistle for the future. This will come in handy when you get some research under your belt and it’s time to start thinking about a layout. It’s;

http://www.vetmed.auburn.edu/~smithbf/BFSpages/LDSIGprimer/TOC.html

For those interested in the latest in train control, might I suggest;

http://www.wiringfordcc.com/

For a delightful foray into the world of older steam locos the following might spark your intrest;

And for our final selection, I think you will enjoy;

This concludes our tour for today.

Can you tell I’m feeling a little goofy today?

Once again, welcome and enjoy!

Trainfan2005,
Welcome!
There are thousands of sites on the net that can help you get started. Those mentioned above are just the beginning. I have links to some of the sites I used, and still use, building the BRVRR on my website. Link is in my signature. Once there just press the LINKS button.
Good luck in your quest.

I misread your question. I assume you are looking for basic information on layouts, etc.
You may be in the right place for that.

When you are ready to start researching specific prototype railroads, locomotives, cars, operations, traffic, buildings, your questions about research probably would belong in the “Prototypeminformation for the Modeler” site area.
