My 2 best engines. My lionel 779 Berkshiere and my MTH 2001 issue G5 are both down due to sound problems. the G5 sound used to work, then stoped and started and now dosent work at all ( I tried changing the battery) but it wotn work, on the Berk, the knob which adjusts the volume of the sound snapped off and all I get is a buzzing. Do places fix these sorts of things? wehre should I go ot get this stuff put right. Ive never delt with modern era repair before. Thanks.
I can’t speak for the MTH locomotive, but the Berkshire just sounds like it needs a new potentiometer (the volume adjustment control). It would help to know which year the Berkshire was made, but this seems to be the part listed for a 779: 6938050T47 - VOLUME CONTROL W/HARNESS $4.30 It’s on the lionel website, here’s the page it’s down towards the bottom: http://www.lionel.com/CustomerService/ReplacementParts/index.cfm?startRow=751&DOACTION=partFilter
I assume you’re talking about the 2003 Model, I’m not sure if they made any others with that number.
New York has authorized service centers for both Lionel and MTH. Go to either manufactures web site and search for service centers near you.
