BUT after visiting the RR museum of PA at Strasburg and falling in love with their heavy mountain # 6755 on static display, and having discovered the K4’s and a few other PRR things that have grabbed and held my attention, I have decided that while I loosely {protolance} model the B&O {and C&O, and CHessie, and CSX depending on what year I want to “play in” at the time}- that the PRR will just have to have “trackage rights” to run on my B&O incarnates track!!!
I may even pull a Dave Vollmer. For those who don’t know he models older PRR stuff and switches out his layout to more modern Conrail when he feels like it.
So I may do my B&O and incarnates stuff sometimes and switch out some things to run PRR when I wanna.
That is as soon as I buy a model railroad space with a house covering it so that I can build a bigger layout than my current HO scale 3.5’ x5.1 foot layout!
One way to get around it if you see a Pennsy loco you’d just LOVE to have–back-date to WWII and ‘lease’ one to cover a ‘power-shortage’, LOL! That’s how I acquired my three Burlington (C&S) steamers.
Not really - removing the lagging and jacketing is necessary to prevent the boiler from rusting out. Left on, water gets in and soaks into the lagging, and very quickly will destroy a boiler. From that picture, 6755 looks to be quite complete, and in reasonable condition. I hope I look that good when I reach her age… She could still be restored, I think.
As I drove to work this morning, I fell in behind a truck that said “Amtrak” on the side. What caught my eye, though, was the license plate, which started with GG1.
Yeah, if I modeled the Pennsy, I’d have to have at least one of those.
They told me the jacket was removed to remove the asbestos --ordered by the EPA
They should have taken the Mountain- the Berk- the Mikado the Consolidation inside and put the passenger cars outside or built a bigger hanger while they were renovating
SIGH That would be her. Ain’t she a beaut??? SO big, massive and proudly she stands. I would love to see her restored to running order, but don’t know if anyone would run her.
There is an Atlantic Loco right behind her that the museum is hoping ot raise the money to restore, but she is a much smaller loco and has some history apparently.
Even with the jacket removed, which I have to agree in that I was told it was removed to remove asbestos. Now maybe putting it back on may cause some rust out, but I understood it to be a cost issue.
Recently, about a year ago TRAINS mag forum news bits listed that half of the 16 employees
Model or prototype? I like my Q2, but it is back at BLI to correct a non-functioning headlamp. Other than that…BLI is launching a second 'edition". Get 'em while they’re hot!
Yes, I believe they should offer the L1 also. The K4 boiler and the basic USRA 2-8-2 frame could be a start along with the tender from a I1. BLI has a lot of the tooling already.
A few emails to BLI might just get us the L1 in the future.
