i think im going nuts!

for 3 years ive been stuck, trackplanless…

it is not from a lack of deciding but from a lack of space.

i am stuck because ive got nowhere really i can fit my layout. and the trackplans i like wont fit on anything small. i need like a 4*8 and i cant fit anything and i going nuts!!!

its going to be simple… 2 lvls, 2 mainline,n scale with just basically anything else.

any suggestions on where i can fit my layout or any decent trackplans that arent …loops…[:)]

many thanks

How about a little shelf switching layout? In N scale you could build a decent switcher in 5x1. That’s basically what I’m building (4 1/2 x 1, plus staging) It’s small, but it manages to keep me occupied. You can always build it wider, if you have the wall/shelf. space. I don’t have any space either, so I had to build to fit in what space I have.

well…i have 2x6 with possible expansion to 4x5

i dont know if theres much i can do with that.

How about expanding something from this site;

Some of the plans are roundy-round, others aren’t. You’ll probably want to change the scenery to american stuff, but I always have found it amazing what those europeans can do with such little spaces.

you may have to wait but you can always move to a place that has enough room…it took me 25 years to find the perfect home that had a large enough room for a decient layout…i’ve built layouts in the past but none of them were nearly large enough for my taste…a small point to point layout with a lot of switching can surfice until you get a place that is big enough for that dream layout…chuck

Until you’re ready to “have it all”, why not do a small piece of your dream. Turn it into a module or two that fit your space. Way better than nothing, and you can keep dreaming while “playing”.[;)]

You can do a lot in 2x6 in N scale. That’s just about perfect for an industrial park, or a track heavy area at the edge of a city.

Thank you for the link, I book marked it.

Amazing stuff, isn’t it? Some of their solutions to space problems are nothing short of genius. [8D]

I can’t get the link to work. Maybe I’m broken…and I just don’t know it. [8D]

In some of my older books I’ve seen N scale railroads made to fit under a bed. One from the 1980’s, I think, was called “The Bedbox Central” and fit a lot into 2’ x 4’ or less. I don’t quite remember. Until you get a bigger place, maybe you could make a small layout that would fit under a bed.

In your space you could definitley manage a nice switching district, mebbe an elevated light rail line too. If you expanded the layout, you could easily stick a backdrop down the middle. You’d still have an val type, but you wouldn’t feel it as much, and the trains would feel like they are going somewhere.

Best of luck
