One reason is that without any effort, one is stopped from making “enhanced” posts. Several weeks ago I was prevented from posting photos or making multiple paragraphs.
Mark:
Can you elaborate a little bit on what happened to you? I have never had any problems posting pictures or using multiple paragraphs. Did you get any explanation for why you were stopped?
Doesn’t sound right to me.

Mark,
I had the same issue when I was using IE as my browser. The problem is gone since I use Firefox.
I’m not going to change my browser. That’s rediculous! MR should accommodate me. It worked before they diddled. They made changes limiting me, AND THEY SHOULD FIX IT.
Mark,
I am assuming you are using IE9, which has a compatibility issue - fortunately one that can be solved.

"ALERT! I’m going out on a limb here. Was that an upgrade to Internet Explore 9? If so you need to look for an icon to the right of the address bar. It looks like a torn piece of paper. The problem is that the forum isn’t compatible with IE9. Clicking the aforementioned icon puts IE9 into IE8 emulation mode and all will work as it should.
ALERT!"
Hope that will help!
Does it work now?
Seems to, Ulrich. Thanks!
Still don’t understand why MR keeps making things difficult. Humph! I didn’t do any conscious upgrade or change to deserve this treatment.
Escapes my understanding as well. At least we don´t seem to be having the speed issues any more…
Keep smiling!
If you have automatic updates enabled on your computer Microsoft will install updates whether you know about them or not. One day everything works, next day SNAFU.I turned automatic updates off on my machine. The dern thing was made by NASA, I do not want to lose it.
Not sure what all the problems are, but I don;t think they are with the site. I’ve never had a problem. I’m even using IE9 now with no problems.

I had that problem on the Bachmann site years ago, from IE7 to IE8 I think.
As Ulrich suggests, compatiblity view fixed it.
Never had any problem here. Overall, as a non computer geek, I find my computer works much better with automatic updates on.
And I have yet to understand the need for a browser other than IE, but again, my use of the computer is basic.

Some websites seem to work better on some browsers than on others…I’m on a few music related forums that have MP3’s enabled right from the threads…IE9 seems to have issues with them…unless it is in compatibility mode…other sites not so much…
i had a problem when I converted to IE 9. I contacted MR and they told me to change a setting somewhere and most of the issues went away. I still can’t use the ‘smiley faces’ along with certain text editing tools so the other day I looked for that setting and couldn’t find it. If anyone knows that setting, let me know otherwise I will contact MR again. The Compatibility Setting doesn’t really seem to make a difference for me either. The forum works but I don’t have some capabilities.
Just testing the compatibility mode.
Microsoft has a long-standing perspective that software standards should be programmed around their standards. Example: Microsoft Office Word’s DOC becomes DOCX – The new “x-file” formats (.docx - .xlsx - pptx) require another (“convenient”) software upgrade to changing proprietary standards. Browser programming also follows suit.
So, I use a Firefox (plug-in) extension to change (if necessary) the rendering engine inside that specific Firefox browser tab to the “I.E. rendering engine” for those websites that still program to Microsoft proprietary standards. That being said, it is always left up to the webmasters, or the browser plug-in programmers, to play update/catch-up when Internet Explorer, or Firefox, updates their browsers to a new version. Meantime, the www/browsing public usually must figure this all out by themselves.
Wow! Sir Madog provided an instruction/correction that worked and was straightforward.
I had been having posts disappear - the site would advise me that no post had been made.
I’m certain that some of those posts that disappeared into the “ether” were quite stimulating and informative, and so now likely the whole world is celebrating that I’m “back”.

I have said it before. Failure is not an option, it comes bundled with Windows.
I started with W3.1 many years ago and stopped at W98SE.
Always used Firefox since it came into being.
I have a laptop with Vista but only for downloading music. I pull the drive and put in the Linux drive for Mobile work. Takes a few seconds to switch.
Now I use a Dell Streak 7 tablet for mobile work.
Switched to Linux seven years ago so not more issues. No for many people, but many with Windows have moved over the Firefox and just let IE do their PC updates and many also select when they want their PC updates and do not let Microsoft do the updates automatically. That can bog down your PC at times.
You just have to learn how to use the technology. Many do not want to.

And I was the one who typed that in at Elliott’s Diner earlier in the day.
That´s right - I just quoted you!
The credit has to go to you!
Actually, that compatability stuff was discussed in a thread around May 19th: http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/p/192106/2096915.aspx#2096915
(and probably before that)
