I very interesting UP unit.

In Wheaton I saw very interesting UP engine today. The photo’s are bad because the gates went down while we were crossing the crossing, so they are very bad angles.

What is the story behing UP unit 3564. I think it is old paint scheme, but I am not sure.

Is this what you are referring to?, It is an old scheme With a shield on the cab side and small lettering down the side? If thats the case, it’s probably just evaded the Paint shop [:D]

What you saw was the very last Pre-1989 UP Paint scheme that is around on the currrent Union Pacific Roster. You were very lucky, a 1 in 7,432 chance.

Wow, I didn’t even plan to see it. I just caught it on a fly. Is it really that rare?

Yep, that “thing” is probably due in the paint shop soon, or possibly up for retirement. Great catch.

It’s the only (active) locomotive left with the UP’s late-70’s scheme.

DARN, that thing’s grimey!

Matt

I have to add this to my “most wanted” list. [(-D]

Well come to Illinois (Chicago) On the UP METRA WEST line alone, CNW 8577 with special saftey symbol, UP3300, 3564, the CNW herritage, and further south are the two CNW D-9’s. I am pretty sure that I saw an F45 on the webcam today on the BNSF too. But that I am not sure of.

Speaking of needing a paint job…

This engine has been hanging around the Adams Line for some time now, and I have seen it 3 times. This photo wasn’t shot by me, but by my Mom.

Is that some older paint peaking through, or is it just faded?

It’s a SD40-2 “Snoot Nose”, if you were wondering. I do have better shots of the engine, but this is all I could find for now.

Phil

Man I can’t see the picture, and I want to really really bad…[:(][:(][;)]

i couldn’t see the picture either

I can’t see it either. BTW, Glen, did that UP unit still have its Leslie RS3L horn, or a Nathan K3LA?
