I want to learn more

Well I’m about two months into this hobby and I have soaked up a tremendous amount of information thanks to you guys.

But I want to learn more about steam locomotives specifics. For example, what does a baker valve look like? Or where the turbine on a J-2 is located. Or the differences between a C-15 and C-16. What are the invidual names for gear and drive mechanisms. (Forgive my ignorance.)

Can anyone recommand any good books?

~Thanks

there are lots of websites that have this information…just type in the engine type and lists will appear on the subject…

I’ll second what Chuck stated.

There is also a book out “Identifying Diesel Locomotives” and “Identifying Steam Locomotives”. They are great books but the publisher name slips my mind at the moment.
