I was given a free running locomotive...Yahhhh Hoooooo!!!

Free is always good!!!

I stoped off at the post office on my way home from work and there was a package waiting for me from a friend who lives far away and heard that I was getting into Ho trains.

He shipped me a mint 0-4-0 Central Pacific steam Loco with tender, the loco has road #105 on it I tried to look this Loco up on the web but can’t find much on the Central Pacific RR.

There are no markings under the loco or tender so I know it is a good bet that it is a generic cheapo but that is not my concern.

I want to pull the correct era cars with this, can anyone give me an idea of what years this

0-4-0 would have been in service, or if it is known if it is a passenger train or freight?

Thanks for any help locating info on this.

Happy Rails.

Sounds like a Model Power or Tyco Steamer.
0-4-0’s were often yard engines, but in the early days sometimes worked a local train on the road. Central Pacific built east from San Francisco and met up with the Union Pacific at Promotory Summit Utah. In 1885 Central Pacific was leased by the Southern Pacific, and has remained under SP ownership since then. Any pre-1885 freight cars will work…

If you were modeling a later era, you could use it as an excursion train, which could then pull a variety of passenger cars.
