…to hear a steam locomotive this morning that I awoke with the idea of placing the leads to my programming track against a 9v battery, and listen to my PRR J1 power up.
We have been gyprocing and mudding our basement all this week, including today, and I have had to cover the layout for some time to keep it free of plaster dust.
As you would expect, power up she did, and it was most gratifying to hear the pumps thumping and crashing, the injectors wailing like banshees, and steam hiss from the blower. Unfortunately, that’s all you get for 9v. Not even a single revolution of the drivers. [:(]
may satisfy your jones well enoughto leave the 9v batteries in the cattle prod, where they may help…motivate…the sheetrock staff to get the basement done.
Thanks for the replies. I’m hopeless…what can I say? Today, first sanding and second mudding, keep emptying the two dehumidifiers, keeping the fire stove going to help with evaporation. I’ll be so glad when this is all over and I can get to redoing my track plan.
Jeff, those sounds are cool. Thanks. Will definitely save on batteries. [(-D]

P.S. -Just thinking, I could hook up a couple of D-cells in series, and add them to the 9v battery’s terminals. That would get me near 12 v, maybe enough to get the loco to move.
Man! I feel your pain… My layout has been inoperable for the last couple of months for the same reason (new room to add more layout).
I have also been working big time on some scenery and have had the mainline taped over for quite some time. I will have to do some serious cleaning even though all possible precautions were taken to keep dust out. But soon… things should be up and running!!! [8D][8D][8D]
Posts some pictures so we can see what is to come.
