thanks for the video, i made me think of some things an old retired coal miner told me years ago. he said that back when they used mules in the mine you could get one to pull 2 cars of coal but if he felt the slack run out of the coupling on a third car, then he would just stand there and balk.
also that mules felt the “top” with one ear at a time so they would know when to duck their heads. when that one ear got sore, they would drop it down and feel the top with the other one. you could always tell a new mule because he had bumps all over his head from the low overhead spots in the mine. once he learned to use his ears, things were ok.

A Clydesdale?
Probably about as many as you’d care to put behind him, LOL! Those guys are the “Yellowstones” of draft horses. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL animals!

No doubt about it, they are beautiful animals and gentle. I drive by a rancher who raises them and I sometimes see him ride one of them. I would hate to get kicked by one. That would leave a mark.[swg]
Will:
Ride on, huh? Surprised he doesn’t split his Levi’s, by golly. Those babies make an Appoloosa look SKINNY! [:P]
But you’re right about gentle. There’s a draft team that pulls an old 19th century fire wagon during the 4th of July parade in my home town. They’re about as sweet as a horse can get. But oh boy, can those babies PULL!

I know. I couldn’t believe it either. I was going to take a picture, but trying to drive down a winding road and snap a picture is not a bad idea. Especially when the highway patrol was behind me.
Will:
Sorry to take up space and bandwidth, but I’ve got to tell you this.
First horse I ever rode when I was six was an Appy on my uncle’s ranch out of Grass Valley, here in California. He put me up on the saddle, I stared down at him (that Appy of his was TALL!) and said, “Uncle Bob, I can’t bend my KNEES!”
He just laughed, whacked the Appy on the flanks and we took off. Of course, that beautiful Appy just loped along with a six-year old hanging onto the reins. But Oboy, did I learn to ride that day, LOL!
I’ve been a sucker for big horses ever since.

One of my mom’s uncles used to raise Clydesdales. He did get kicked by one one time - way out on one of his far pastures so no one missed him - it knocked him out for a while. He was lucky.

There’s a thoroughbred farm the next county over that had a retired Budweiser horse there that the owner some how got a hold of because he knew someone who knew someone etc.
Well years a go I remember them having one there and people would always stop and pet him etc. a real ham and some what of a local celebrity. I was in the local farm supply a couple of months a go and ran into a guy I know who works at that farm and said hey I see you got another Clydesdale saw him out in the pasture a few days ago. Guy said nope thats the same horse. Don’t know how old they are when they retire em but that horse has been on that farm for over 25 years at least.
