Wow its been so long since the announcement of the NS, CN, etc Gevo units from the Manufacture formerly known as Tower 55. Then we have been hearing for a couple of years now for the SD70ACe units to come out. Its taking super super longer than any other manufacture announcement. The fact of the matter is I can of course wait. I do not NEED to have these units but I would just like to have some without paying $900 or as much as $1500 from Ebay for the Heritage SD70ACe units. I saw the sample shells at the West Springfield train show and they looked great but needed a few adjustments and when I last spoke to someone (Brandon) at Tower 55 he said the molds were all finished but there is nothing in production yet. Any guys from the inside here? Guys who may really know whats up? Have any of you preordered any of these units? I havent. I usually wait to they are very near and then make calls. I would really LOVE to buy a few NS units even though BNSF is my road. So what are your thoughts on Tower 55 and When you THINK we might see the SD70ACe and next run of GEVO units?
Overpriced. Overrated. Don’t look any better and (apparently) run worse than Atlas, Kato and possibly Athearn. Who cares (besides you and a very few others)?
Sorry for the rant, but you get the idea…
The latest news I saw was that most of the T55 products are in their warehouse, but they are having to change their packaging to reflect their new corporate name before shipping anything, in order to avoid a possible lawsuit over the use of the word “Tower.”
I have two of their GEVO units and a third one is on backorder. They are the smoothest running, best sounding locomotives, I own; and I have nearly 100. Contrary to another opinion that has been expressed, mine run better than a new Kato Kobo, Atlas, Athearn Genesis, or Broadway Limited product.
When did T55 change their name, and what is it now?
Wow so much hate towards a manufacture with the BEST running and BEST looking locomotives aside from Brass. I would assume more than afew people are in the market for some T55 units. Their prices are no doubtedly too expensive but they sure do look, run and sound great!
T55 as it is called now must be having cash flow problems since the SD70Ace should have been out a year or so ago. The repeats of the GE’s have been very slow in coming out also, but there have been some changes that took place on the prototypes and Overland and T55 is trying to get a decent product out. I have Atlas and Kato models also, but they are very generic in nature and details and the T55 is much better with details for different railroads.
Brian is a good person and will get them out in about six months to a year from now.
I am suprised they keep importing brass when they could probably make more money and do a lot more sales on the T55 line. I was looking forward to the T55 UP Heritage units since the brass ones are 900 plus and one on Ebay recently went well over a thousand dollars.
All of my Overland brass models are now so expensive I would not buy them again.
