I wonder why...

I really enjoy this forum and have learned a lot from its members. But, I wonder why it is so slow in loading and changing views. Do any other members have this trouble? I frequent woodworking and photography forums and don’t have this trouble with them, so don’t think its my computer.

I haven’t noticed anything. It’s like greased lightning for me,…but then again I’m on a dedicated T1.

What kind of connection do you have?

I didn’t know anybody was still using T1s.[;)][:o)]

with some peoples browsers when you use the back button on it …doesn’t automaticly update the page…next time it doesn’t appear to change, click on the “refresh” button on your broswer to see if that does it…

Yup,…and the best part is that it’s free!!!

I work for the phone company (it helps to have friends in high places!!!). [:D]

First thing I did was turn off the signatures and images under board display settings. What a difference.

If you are on dialup some ISP’s are offering a web accelerator software package for free. That does a much better job of caching previously viewed pages so you do not have to constantly wait for the MR header to load for example. Works well for me.

I miss my free cable broadband, but my wife’ s military obligation took us elsewhere. My broadband was faster than T1 where we were so that was great. Everytime I think about T1s I think about the old PairGains. No matter the speed, you can’t beat FREE![:D]

Stephen,

Sometimes it’s slow to load; sometimes not. I have a 56K modem at home and it fluctuates betweent the two. It’s also that way with other pages and web sites. Every once in a while it’ll just time out completely…

Tom

i’m on cable and sometimes it’s slow for me . i suspect some of the problem is my isp and some is the servers and software used here

I have a Cable connection that is very fast. How long the site takes to load, depends more on the traffic or whatever problems the site is having at the time. Sometimes it loads almost immediately and other times it may take a minute or so to load. When it is running slow, I usually just find something else to do for a while and come back later.

[#ditto]

In general, this site is a very large site with very long load time. I reccommend turning off signatures.

Well, I don’t normally have a problem with Trains.com because I have a cable Internet connection. So it is usually quick to load. But there are sometimes when there are many users on that it slows down my performance slightly. And especially in threads like Weekend Photo Fun, with all the pictures, and signature pictures. Other than that though, I’m good.

Now, I did have quite a bit of problems when I was on a dial-up connection. I was running at 26.6kbps, and always had trouble when on this site.

Thanks to all who answered. I should have included the fact that I am on a cable modem. It is slow all the time. Will try your suggestions.

Thanks

Steve

Dedicated DSL at 2.6 Megabits average service makes this site pretty easy to “Fly around” in.
