Iain Rice, Model Railroad Planning 2006

Iain Rice doesn’t really say what the name of the original design was called. I looked through all of my back copies and indexes but coudn’t find anything like it no matter what the name might have been.

I suspect that that the original layout design is still in Model Railroader files and hasn’t made it onto the printed page as yet. They haven’t answered my email on this question,

I like what Iain does and the way that he explains things, how do I get in touch with him?

Would he be any relation to that old-time MR denizen, Eric LaNal, a/k/a Alan Lake Rice?

Iain is a native of the UK, Chagford, down the far South West corner. As for getting in touch I think it would have to be care of MR’s offices. They usually reply to email or it may appear in the next MR questions column.
Mr Rice is prolific in his writings on track planning, I’ve got 3 of his British books and the Kalmbach book on US designs,’ Small, smart & practical trackplans’ p19 August MR. The plan you’re looking for is probably in there or one of his previous MR Planning articles.
I tried to convert my father to US prototypes by lending him the book, so he built his British layout based on the trackplan of one of the designs from the US book!
