Iain Rice Proto 87 Roque Bluffs project series
According to the TOC of the May 2004 Issue of MR, the Roque Bluffs project had an eighth part on detailing and operations.
Is there any chance you can fix your site so PDFs actually download as PDF files? I think it’s ridiculous to have to rename the file extension so the file works.
Doesn’t seem to be anything here to download.
David Winther must be the lucky one. No download for me either.
No problem downloading the PDFs here Jeff. Everything worked perfectly.
I too had no problem downloading. Very interesting. For me, just starting out, it was really informative
I had no problems downloading. Click on the link and it opens in a new window.
The April 2004 article references a final part in May 2004 ?? that’s missing from the list. The article covers finishing touches, tuning for smooth running and shelf layout operation.
Firefox wouldn’t allow download until I followed instructions that let Adobe run.
I thought this series was very interesting and well done when I first saw it eight years ago. Now that I’m planning my own layout I’m glad the file was available online since my back issues of MR were lost. This small layout will fit nicely in a space I have available for a seaport. I think Ian captured the feeling of ‘Down East’ quite well with Roque Bluff.
I also would like to see the May 2004 article, which is missing from the pdf downloads.
I spook to Ian today (Houten, Holland, sunday march 13th, 2011) a saw his layout for real. Only one word, amazing!
A very inspirational series. Especially for us space-starved modellers on the move. Economical, too.
What is missing however is that final installment to tie it all together. Could you get in on-line, please?
Now this is what I call a really useful series of model railroading articles. This series covers just about everything a novice would need to transform his own ideas into a great looking and smoothly operating model railroad. The author’s instructions, descriptions and photos are the best yet. Mr. Rice is articulate and thorough in his instructions without an excess of adjectives. His photos present views of the most critical activities in the assembly of track work. These are important because they announce that the modeler should pay special attention to what he’s doing at this point in his work.
Bravo for presenting this series of articles and more of the same in future, please.

Great layout design and Iain is always on the money with small but effectives model RR.
