I have several packages of old McKean Models ‘Hopper Topper’ tops that were used to convert open coal hoppers into covered grain hoppers. I have seen pictures of CR and B&O cars that were converted with this fiberglass top. I seem to remember seeing ICG coal hoppers given orange toppers for grain service as well. Has anyone got prototype or model pictures of these ICG cars?
BTW, the hopper topper experiment seemed to last only a few years. Damaged tops & leaking grain sort of doomed them - a 70’s thing for sure!
