Ideas for roadbed (street) next to Superstreets

I recently purchased a set of the Superstreets track, to run a Birney for the Christmas Layout. My intention was to run a roadbed on each side of the Superstreet track for vehicles (dicast non-moving). I am using a poly batting material as an overlay on the foam base of the layout, and am contemplating what to use as vehicle roadway.

Superstreets is 3/16" thick. My first idea is to use 1/8" plywood, but am concerned about stability within the plywood, and am worried about it curling up. I have tried the 3/16" masonite, but that really curls up.

I welcome any suggestions.

Thank you,

Kurt

How about 3/16" cork? Painted black (or to match the SuperStreets), it ought to resemble asphalt.

How 'bout Foamcore. Not sure on the thickness. Very stable easy to cut material. Comes in colors too. The grey might be very close to Superstreets.

Great Idea. I’ll give that a try today. Thanks. Now why didn’t I think of that?

Where do you get the sheets of cork? A craft center like Michael’s or Jo Ann Fabrics?

I have found it at many office supply stores (like Staples). They cary sheets and rolls for bulletin boards. Unfortunately, it can be pricey there. Home centers (Lowe’s, Home Depot) also carry it many times. And then there are specialty suppliers or building materials. I haven’t followed through, but someone once suggested that it can be found through some tile distributors as a rubberized version very much like what we use for roadboad is used for underlayment in some applications.

I was at Target the other day and they had adhesive backed cork drawer liner. May be a bit thin for this application but could be used elsewhere. But typically even the local hardware store should have rolls of cork for making bulletin boards. Definately available at Lowes, Depot, Menards etc.
