Looks like a British Pacific to me .I don’t know much about Great Britain’s trains and can’t tell you anything about the class or railroad.

No idea whether Mallard was the only one that looked like that-- in any case it’s an LNER class A4 three-cylinder 4-6-2 (with the double exhaust?).

The Mallard has preserved and is on display at a museum in England.

From the size of the image, it is impossible to tell exactly which locomotive is involved, but it does certainly look like one of the London and North Eastern Railway class-A4 Pacifics designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. LNER #4468 / BR #60022 Mallard is probably the most famous, and according to most sources, ran the fastest a piston-driven steam locomotive ever ran, briefly just over 126 mph (about 203 km/hr). (This record is somewhat controversial, but that’s a much bigger can of worms.)

But several other A4’s are well-known, and indeed still exist. I think today Union of South Africa (LNER #4488 / BR #60009) is the only one in operating condition, but Mallard has run within the last twenty years or so, and so has IIRC the loco named for its designer, Sir Nigel Gresley (LNER #4498 BR #60007).

I think the locomotive in the picture is Mallard, you can tell by the small plaque midway down the locomotives side which commerates the World Record run.

With the preserved A4s there are two in North America. No 60008 ‘Dwight D Eisenhower’ in the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay WI and No 60010 ‘Dominion of Canada’ at Exporail near Montreal, Quebec. Canada.

Another A4 No 60019 ‘Bittern’ has recently returned to running after overhaul and No 60007 is running as well as No 60009.
