Identification of a German Litho Building

Recently I purchased the building shown here on eBay. The seller listed it as an American Flyer pre war building, which I knew it was not. It has a marking that indicates that it is German. Hopefully I will be able to post the pictures. Can anyone tell me the maker? I have not seen the mark before, I usually concentrate only on AF. Any other information that you can provide, or pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. It is scaled a bit too small for O but a little larger than would look good with HO.

Thanks,

Greg

Thats the mark of Bing. You can search on Bing in O gauge trains on ebay to see other trains and accessories from this German toy maker. Could be an OO scale piece. Not much more I can tell you, although it you can get a history of Bing here.

It looks to me like a Bing station.

That’s all I know about it.

It’s Bing - 1920’s. They made a wide variety of buildings for the O gauge market. Some of these were, like the Lionel villas, far too small for O. They exported to the U.S. before and after WWI. They made items for other manufacturers (cars, trains, accessories) and, in the pre 1920 period Flyer was one of their customers. However, this freight station was not made for American Flyer.

Thank you for the identification and information. I recognized immediately that it was not an American Flyer piece and that it was not something that had been manufactured by someone else and marketed by AF. It looks as if the freight building comes from the period of 1924 to 1933. Does anyone have a catalog from that era that might display the building? Does anyone have any pictures of buildings by Bing from the same era?

I appreciate the combined experience and knowledge available here.

Greg

Bing offered the same lineside accessories in catalogs of different countries. It’s pictured in the French catalog for 1925 with a catalog ID number of 10/652 Long: 25cm, Wide 14.5cm, high 11 cm. It is also pictured in the Bing German catalog for 1928 same ID number and dimensions. I have pictures of some of the buildings (that freight shed has a lot of company) from the period. I’d be willing to send some pictures to you if you want.

mersenne6,

Thanks for the information. I would enjoy seeing the pictures, or if you can post them here for all to see that would be great too. The quality of the litho is really excellent, and the building is remarkably light, almost to the point of being fragile. It is much more easily bent or damaged than some of the Flyer or Lionel pieces that I have or have seen. Is the freight shed part of a set, or are there just a number of related buildings? I may have to spend more time on eBay looking for more Bing.
