I have recently decided to start up the search of my Aunt’s Lionel set’s identity and value.
Since I am currently on Sprin Breack in Tennessee, I can not get all of the correct numbers, but most I remember.
The locomotive is a 1060 with a non-whistling streamlined tender. I believe my avatar picture has the 1060 in it, along with one of my locomotives. She also has a 3386 (No, I’m not kidding at all about the number) blue Bronx Zoo car. There is also a black flatcar with a red automobile which does not stay on when the train is under way. There is also a Lionel Lines caboose, whose number I cannot remember. None of the cars have operating couplers, and neither does the locomotive.
If anyone can make anything out of this, be my guest, but after searching book after book I gave up. I will post the numbers of the unknown cars on Friday when I return home, but until then, good luck trying to figure it out.
Cheese looked in my cd of different train manuals and either not cataloged , I diidn’t have correct year, Or it was one of the files messed up as this cd has seen better days.
I believe thou what hes really looking for is the set number and value of the set as a whole not by piece. If your catalogs shows the set thats what he wants and what all is part of the set
That is indeed what I was looking for. I am in Pigeon Forge, by the way. We come here all the time and I love it, especially those narrow gauge White Pass mikes at Dollywood.
Sounds like set # 1109 in the advanced catalog of 1960. It lists a 1060 loco w/ 1060t tender. 6404 flat with a brown auto, 3386 Bronx car and a 6047 caboose. This is the only set a 1060 had a Bronx car in it.
That helps alot. However, the automobile is red, but I’m sure that is no that big of a deal.
In reply to the gentleman above, I meant to type “on Spring Break in Tennessee”. I typed that on my sister’s laptop, which can be a “butt” (I could say worse but I am trying to cut back on my swearing).
Oh, by the way rtraincollector, do you know of any train shops in the Seveirville or Pigeon Forge area? I recall of one that used to advertise in CTT, but it no longer does. The store at the Christmas Place has closed and they are moving into the main building, so not everything was put out, and the only O gauge was maybe 10 or 11 pieces of MTH rolling stock.
Dollywood was very disapointing today. The train was not running because of firebox problems, and it won’t likely be running for a while, so no train, and the motion ride “Smoky Mountain Wilderness Tour”, which was on of my favorite rides there, was replaced with “Thunder Road”, which had been there before the “Smoky Mountain Wilderness Tour”. And due to the cold, all the roller coasters except for Thunderhead was closed, which was another big disapointment.
Go south through the National Park, turn west in Cherokee towards Bryson, NC and you will find http://www.smokymountaintrains.com/ and one of the best displays of Lionel trains in the country. Take your camera and ride the train if it is running.
I was there in Novemeber and as Mrs. Buckeye said, “Nothing is dusty.” [:)] Have fun on Spring Break and stay safe.
other than what was said above no there isn’t any. that is what I’ve hated about this area. I’m about 30 miles from you as pigion forge isn’t far at all. I’m heading to Asheville, NC today.
We have been there before. That used to be a regular part of our Twice or Three times yearly trips to the Smokies, but we haven’t been in a while. We now just stay mainly in the Pigeon Forge area, We don’t do much in Gatlinburg unless we are staying in a cabin there.
We stopped in an antique store in Wears Valley on the way to Cades Cove. They had about 20 or so railroad magazines, and an old Lionel set with orginial bozes from the 1940’s for $1000, which of course I di not buy.
I was tempted to buy an old Marz locomotive and tender with 2 cars, but the price was $70 and I didn’t want to pay that much for it because it was in rough shape and had no track, but the guy said it ran. Is $70 a good deal for it?

Well My Good Sir, you must not have been recently. The past fews years have seen an amazing growth, with 3 new award winning rides having been built within the last 3 years. But to each his own I suppose.
I could not see the numbers because they were behind a glass case and he would not let me take a closer look. It was an 0-4-0 locomotive that looked similar to a Canadian Pacific Jubilee, with a NYC Tender, NYC Boxcar, and an NYC Coach. The paint was not in good condition though.
I was there this past Aug 07, I’m not knocking it just feel it is way overpriced for what is there(except the train of course). Now if you want rides!Cedar Point,Sandusky Oh. is the place to go.
Marx train prices seem to be all over the place so it kind of comes to the point of is it worth that much to me. Right now prices on the bay have gone way over normal prices some of those buyers must be desperate. Or don’t know any better.
