ID'ing Marx Tarins

Hello, a while ago I posted requesting information about an old set of Marx Trains. Well being that my first post was flooded by people looking to sell their trains, I will post it again.

The set is over 60 years old, and is it great shape. The box, however, is not that great. On the box, the partial number 988 is printed, along with the words “Official Union Pacific stream Line Electric Trains” There are some very minor scratches on the side of the cars, but other than that, everything is is great shape. Included is a transformer and a decent amount of track, not rusted or damaged. The set works as far as I know. Any help with identifying the set name and type, and the value of the set would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you have a very excellent set there. Having the original box inserts is quite good. From the pictures, I would probably rate your train as being in good or slightly better condition (by TCA standards). This is a Marx M-10005 set that dates from the late 1930’s. The values for each piece are as follows:
Engine: $40
M-10005 Railway Express Agency… car: $30
Denver Passenger Car: $15
Omaha Passenger Car: $15
Squaw Bonnet Observation Car: $20
The track and transformer have little value.
All together with the box the whole set would probably be worth around $150.
