IE9

An update for Windows 7 is trying to install IE9; anyone using IE9? Some years back – good ol’ Bergie was still aboard if memory serves me – I tried to upgrade from IE7 to IE8 and everything went to (you know where) in a handbasket and I had to go back to IE7 to get the forum to function properly. IE8, at that time, was experiemental and incompatable with the forum software; eventually the problems sorted themselves out but I don’t wanna have to go through going back to IE8 if things now turn out to be incompatable.

My new laptop has IE9 and I have no trouble with the forums (yet).

I run Mozilla Firefox, so I don’t have to worry about “forced” upgrades. Just say, “No, Thanks.” when asked if you want to upgrade.

It does force upgrades too, actually. Just not to major releases. But it will auto-patch itself.

I use IE9 and it works fine.

I’m also a Firefox user. I tried the IE9 browser an didn’t like it.

I use Firefox but I was curious so I let it install and tried it, it kept locking up and crashing, so I uninstalled it. Your mileage may vary.

IE9 will doubtless work, Microsoft is pretty good about compatibility, and IE is the industry standard. However, you ought to try Firefox. It’s free, it’s fast, and it’s much safer than IE. Down load it and try it. If you don’t like it, then download IE9.

MS-IE9 and Mozilla Firefox 4.0 both will provide very fast initial loading, and are quite compatible with most badly written web pages. On IE9, click on ‘tools’ - Find the little icon that looks like a ‘torn page’ - click on it and IE9 will work with most any web page(it’s called the compatibility feature). I could not get it to work wit several forums(including this one if I tried posting) before I found out about this feature. Firefox has it built-in from what I can find, but they still seem to have some ‘formatting’ issues with posts. I have been using IE9 on a Vista 64 bit machine with no issues once I found out about the ‘compatibility’ feature. You will be amazed how fast both browsers now load. Now, if Goggle Chrome would get rid of their ‘bloat-ware’, it might be more accepted as well. It appears in their ‘old age’ that MS seems to be following the ‘rules’ better…

IE9 works okay with the forums but IE10 has bugs that prevent the on-line writing and posting of messages or replies to messages. Every time I tried to type a reply all of the text disappeared when I clicked on Post…

That has happened to me. But on my version of IE (either 9 or 10) there is a small icon up at the top of the screen that looks like a torn piece of paper right next to the refresh icon. They call this compatibility view. When problems such as you describe occur, left clicking on that icon seems to correct things.

I had that problem when I upgraded to IE9. After clicking the compatibility button, everything works great.

Is IE10 already out? I thought IE9 was just released!!
