If Amtrak was to be discontinued in a Week or so what train or trains would you ride for the final or first time? I would love to ride the Crescent Phila-New Orleans or the Southwest Chief.
If amtrak was going tomorrow i would ride the empore builder all the way to the end of the line in washington.
I would ride the Starlight to EMY, then the Zephyr to Denver, take the Bus to NM, and Catch the Chief to LA, and Take the Starlight back to Eugene. But I don’t have that much time, so realisticly, I would fly to Denver, and take the train back to Eugene from there.

Take the Maple Leaf from St.Catharines to New York Penn.
Take the Silver Star from New York Penn to Jacksonville, Florida.
Take the Sunset Limited from Jacksonville, Florida to Los Angelas
Take the Coast Starlight from Los Angelas to Seatle
Take the Empire Builder from Seatle to Chicago
Take the Capitol Limited from Chicago to New York Penn
Ending off with the Maple Leaf from New York Penn back to St. Catharines.

yeah, you better, it actually is pretty cheap to do that though, as long as you aren’t in the sleeper! I priced all the way from Eugene to FLA and back using the Cascades, Builder, Capitol Limited, Silver Star, Sunset, and Coast Starlight for about 750 without Sleeper, with the sleeper, it was 2 grand more.

On the train that much; going to have to have comfort so a sleeper will be necessary. Actually, I figure if I get a job that makes me $100,000 a year, won’t be a problem. Certain customs jobs higher up in the food chain sort of speak, make close to that anyways.
Ideally, if I won the lottery I would lease a private car.
I would take the Pere Marquette all the way from Grand Rapids, MI to Chicago. Come October, this could be a reality if they really discontinue service
For Junction Fan: The Capitol Limited only goes from Chicago to Washington, DC. You would have to take Metroliner or a Regional to go from Washington to New York.
Instead of riding the Capitol Limited I would ride the Cardinal You already plan to ride the Sunset. If any long diatnce trains are actually removed those two trains would be high on the hit list; at least that’s my opinion.

I have ridden the Twentieth Century and Super Chief, New York to LA, and… it didn’t get any better than that!
I have to work tommorrow, so I couldnt take any of them.

Empire Builder (the first Amtrak train I ever rode on) from Seatle to Chicago
Capitol Ltd. from Chicago to D.C.
Acela Express from D.C. to NYC
Lake Shore Ltd. from NYC back to Rochester

Ever since Amtrak closed its smoking lounges/rooms, I would rather cruise than ride the rails. Luckily, I have already rode the Texas Eagle, Sunset Limited, Pacific Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, California Zephyr, Southwest Chief, the Surfliner, the Capitol Limited, the Lakeshore Limited, the Acela, the Silver Meteor, the Three Rivers, and Southern Crescent, and the City of New Orleans before the smoking ban…
