If locomotives had steering wheels, what would they do?
They would be something else for the crews on which to dump their spitters and spread fecal matter.
Provide comedy value when going through level crossings, depots, etc. (only if detachable) [:D]
Depends. Are they on the left or the right? Once that is determined, then it will be a round and round discussion on Trains Forum.
They would unroll the track the engine has stored in it, but in the direction the engineer wants the train to go.
----------use them for brakes?--------
Swerve out of control, crash, and burn.
Swerve to hit cars and pedestrians, thereby making most media reports of train accidents more accurate.
Drift out of their lane while the engineer texts on his phone.
Be a real challenge to parallel park.
Did I miss something, or is it April?
Nah—May.
I am sure this is from the Steering Committee. You must either turn left or right and let the wrath of your detractors guide the discussion from there.

…Wabash could justify those cab mirrors then?
OOOOOO…we could finally get the train on the adjacent track!
Nick
Would Locomotives then require TWO Enghineers?
So the railroad could depend on them making a decision…Right Or Left ? [soapbox] [ banghead]
[%-)] [%-)]
They would steer his thread way off-track…Actually some European locomotives and M.U’s have a rotary throttle that looks a bit like a steering wheel…
No, you would need 3 engineers in case of a tie vote.
Jeff
Heck, just put some solid super stiff rubber tires on it and voila…instant trucking industry killer! You’d have a real “Road” railer! No more short haul from terminal to destination…just ramp the rails to concrete and let 'er go!
Like tree68, I feel I must have missed something. The only thing more puzzling than the question is the responses.
Thaaat’s the spirit!! [:D]
I would imagine, that the steering wheel would be most useful when backing the train up.
