If the Rock Island was lquidated in 2006, how many of their assets would have ended up being sold on online internet sites, or even online auctions?
Exactly 1,094,573 items, includeing 5,823 peices of rolling stock and 482 company vehicles…but that does not include the DODX shackle cars.
And if the internet and ebay was around back in 1980 some of that stuff could have ended up listed there.
Maybe we could interest a dentist in salvaging it.
The surviving trackage would be exactly the same that we have now. I suspect that Rock Island would not have lasted even with the Staggers reforms in place. The Milwaukee would also be in play, and it was in “better” shape, and with “better”(compared to the Rock) routes so there we are. CP might have bought some of the Rock, but more of it would have wound up in “Uncle Pete’s” hands!
