I would have my paint scheme be something like a murial of well known things about Nebraska. One part of the engine would be red for the huskers. Nebraska’s football team. Nebraska is a big corn growing state so I would have another section with cornfields on it. I would also have a section with wilflowers on it. I would seek input from others. There would be zig - zag lines on the engines also. The railroad that owned the engines would be named the “Nebraska regional murial railroad.” ( Wierd name isn’t it ![:D] ) That would be my paint scheme and railroad. Cool Question! [8D]
I always liked maroon with a second color (i.e., Milwaukee Road’s maroon and orange, GM&O’s maroon and red with yellow/gold separating stripes, etc.). In Hierarchy, my upcoming novel, one of the main characters rides a “RailTran” passenger train from Chicago to the fictitious town of Midwest City. Paint scheme is maroon and red, separated by white stripes. Colors are in honor of the University of Wisconsin (red) and fictitious Illinois Midwestern University (maroon) which are located on the RailTran line.
Never seen the Omaha, Lincoln & Beatrice? (right outside the football factory, heard a rumor that there’s a school somewhere nearby and that it isn’t a religious shrine)
Mookie - get ready to play tour guide…
PS- Go across the state and see Nebkota at Chadron.
I would use a scheme that is “pretty”, yet easy to maintain.
I might “borrow” a color scheme from a local fallen flag, e.g. the North Shore here in Milwaukeeland.
Only if they used the same colors that I wanted to use! [}:)]
No, and no.
Probably.
I’m not really sure. I once saw an IAIS Geep that was all green and I thought it looked cool. I’ve always liked the B&O paint scheme, but would probably do a variation on it, maybe an orange stripe or something. Most likely, I would adapt the paint scheme from a used locomotive, e.g. an ex-UP, repaint the yellow with blue, repaint the red stripe with green and use yellow lettering… THAT would look sharp!
Of course, I always liked the old CGW red and black paint scheme too…
Again, I would probably just adapt another railroad’s paint scheme, most likely from a used locomotive. I always liked CP Rail’s italic lettering, so I would use something like that, since I think it conveys the image of speed – although I think a shortline probably wouldn’t have much of that!!! [:0]
Probably a variation on the scheme for my model railroad. Green with blue trim, essentially. Have been known to add in some silver and/or white as well. The green is a 50-50 mix of reefer yellow and PC Jade - it’s actually quite attractive, I think. Almost a Kelly green.
Green and blue are appropriate for an area known for woods and water. None of the other criteria apply.
Locomotives Black & Red, they would stick out pretty much anywhere, especally here in WI, were most of the scenery is Green in the Summer, and White or a sickening dead color in the the Winter and Early spring. Freight cars would probably be a dark gray (UP or SP Gray), or a dark blue.
Real story: The Wisconsin Central in my opinion had one of the best paint jobs on an F45. The way the paint scheme came about was really simple. We realized that these engines were kinda special so we were wondering what the RR had planned for them. I called Bob Nadrowski VP mechanical and found out that there really wasn’t a plan for them, Jim Fisk was planning on just changing the colors on the Santa Fe scheme. This didn’t really sit well with a group of us in the shop, we wanted something unique to WC.
One night on 3rd shift me and Al Lapine were down in the wa***rack with one of the F45s, the flanks of the carbody was damp from the wash job and the humididty, we began tracing out the scheme on the sides of the locomotive. After we were satisfied we sketched it out on paper and submitted it to Mr . Nadrowski . It didn’t take long before we saw the first repainted F-45. We were pleased.

The Borracho RR operated in the Arizona/New Mexico border area near 4 corners, up a remote valley serving the town of Borracho Springs, the Borracho Tequila Distillery and the F.U.B.A.R. Mining Consortium.
Its a 3 foot narrow gauge line modeled in large scale,
As for LimitedClear’s list? lets see…
How would you decide what it would be?
see above[:D]
Would you take into account where the RR is located?
see above[:D]
Would you use the colors of the state or a university or pro team in the area?
No, because there isnt a University for 200 miles.[:0]
Would it have anything to do with commodities hauled?
No unless you count the ore stains on the sides of the cars…[8)]
Would it have anything to do with fruits, vegetables, flowers or other things grown there (i.e. Orangle Blossom Special)?
Well we could call it the “Blue Agave Special”…[;)]
Would you seek input from others?
Only when they have sobered up a bit…[xx(]
What colors would you use?
Grimy black and various shades of rust… actually the engines DO have a defacto paint scheme…red water saddle tanks and dark green cabs, although the newer gas engines are done in D&RGW Silver.[:)]
What types of designs? (stripes? Lettering?)
Whatever the paint shop crews can manage to paint on straight…the “official” Borracho Springs logo was borrowed from the RGS…Shouldnt have built the service facility so close to the distillery aging warehouse.[xx(]
i would only have fp45s with an sp daylight paintjob except for orange to red to black and have the front look like an AT&SF warbonnet with ksw in the middle
Always liked that scheme. I think they called it “sunburst” Remember back before the merger, they were associated with the C&O.
And Definitely RED cabooses!
