If you could have a prototype......

O.K. This is probably a dream of all railroad enthusiasts, to own a real locomotive![:D] Steam, diesel, electric, does it matter? I would definently own a Big Boy, fully operational of course[^]. If I could have a diesel it’d probably be a set of EMD A-B-B-A F-7’s. As for electric, it’d probably be a GG1 . So how about you guys? There must be a real loco you want, tell us about it.[;)]

well, I’d like a steam engine, but they require too much maintenance, so I’l settle for a diesel… maybe an E6 or and M-100000

Definatly steam. A 4-4-0 would suit the bill nicely, or a Shay.

Personally I’d prefer an electric–either a box motor or a nice fancy observation car like the “Moraga.” And after having a chance to tour the interior of Lucius Beebee’s private car, the “Gold Coast”, a luxury private car would be nice–I know my wife wouldn’t mind one…there’s still a little private varnish knocking around if you have the means.

Of course, considering the size of my backyard, an 0-4-0T narrow gauge Baldwin might just fit…

A brand new Sd-90mac so I could sell it and use the money to by more model train stuff. FRED

A Santa Fe 2900 4-8-4 to run passenger excursions across the country and make money to finance my modelling. For a diesel, an A-B-B-A set of E8s.

Probobly a Illinois Central “City of Miami” trainset. Mabey it will bring us Chicagoians better weather

I certainly wouldn’t complain if I had a Big Boy. However, my dream would probably be some sort of Union Pacific big steamer, like a 7000 class 4-8-2. But [sigh] they were all scrapped long before I could see them. However, I also think that a big UP 4-12-2 or a 2-8-2 would be wonderful. As for diesels, that’s a tough choice. Being an Alco fan I naturally gravitate toward PAs and RS-3s, although I also like E-8s and E-9s. As for electrics, being a member of the Dash-9 generation I have not had the pleasure of seeing the complete aray of electrics, but probably a GG-1 or western mountain electric (as on GN or Milwaukee).

I love the looks of big steamers but shoveling coal doesn’t appeal to me so I would go diesel. For business purposes,a brand new SD90 would be my choice, but for nostalgia rides…an Alco PA,no doubt.

I would just want a hi-rail pick-up truck. that would to me be the best of both worlds. Get to that out of the way place for the “perfect shot” re-rail and move on. think about it.

A GP7 o GP9…Then on the other hand perhaps a SW1200.

oh wow…well i dont think i could pick just one…but i would want the ONE AND ONLY MLW M640, an M636, an M630, and M630 with the wide cab, an M420, an HR616, and probably another oddball an M424…id also like an SD60F, a Dash8-40CM, an electric GF6C…and steam…probably a Challenger or a C&O 2-6-6-6.

Like this will really happen…but hey its a dream.
…now where would i put those…i think the garage is probably out of the question.

A Rock Island 4-8-4 or Rock Island E units.

Pennsy’s GG1’s would be the #1 must-have for me! Next on my list would be a streamlined Hudson, like that which hauled NYC’s famed 20th Century Limited. A 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive, in Union Pacific livery, would be round out the list.

SD7 would be my loco, if I had to park it on my lawn next to the house, or perhaps a sleeper obervation or sleeper dome, maybe a diner. What would look most at home next to the house would be a PCC. Sort of fit the house style! I’d be lucky to afford a speeder or handcar! A reefer car might be more practical, I could put the layout inside, park it in the back yard or on the other side. - tom

I would like a GN S2 and for a diewsel a pair of EMD FP45’s

Howard

A N&W Y-6b mallet, and a West Virginny Holler to run it in…

SD90Mac,Or SD45

Hey Dreamers–I know some guys who do own 12"-to-the-foot-scale locomotives (steam and diesel). They remind me of boat owners. And you know what the definition of “boat” is–it’s a hole in the water into which you pour money!

I’d take the GO Transit’s “special project” EMD F7, A NYC streamline Hudson with disc drivers, or any road’s E6. A PA-1 would be nice but only in classic D&H colors. hook up some pullmans, a dome, the diner/nightclub from the 20th Century Limited, and the glass-roofed end car from the Olympian Hiawatha and I’d have my perfect executive train.
