I think this is an interesting question, of course. I personally would want to operate the Norfolk Southern because of the high hood unit’s theay own. also you got to love that black and white paint scheem!!! Who’s with me? [yeah]

Does this mean you’d have everything rebuilt into a high hood? There’s actally a precedent for that, when Southern acquired the original Norfolk Southern, they did exactly that to their power.
Warren Buffet, much more astute than me, has chosen BNSF and now owns more than 20% of its stock through Berkshire Hathaway. I think I shall follow the leader.
As I understnd things, the high hood originally housed the boiler for passenger trains, or other equipment. If a locomotive was built with a short hood, that need, or lack of need, has already been taken care of. To go back and add the tall hood does what? Ad room for a vacation time share in the front of a GP 38? Wouldn’t it have been more cost effective, to just paint over some of the windshield glass?[;)]
