I need photos of the hanging bridge and the surroundings. I want to model that area.
There are many interesting things down there. Not only the bridge itself, but also different details at both ends of the bridge. Fence, stairs, houses, platform and so on…
All photos of the hanging bridge is VERY interesting. So if you have been there on vacation or just happens to have some photos, please let me know
A friend of mine and I were up there about two years ago to ride the train through Royal Gorge. I took quite a few pictures but it may take me a little bit to find them. They were digital but were saved to a cd and removed from my computer. I also shot a lot of video but that won’t help you much. I will see what I do have in the way of pictures and let you know. It will more than likely be later in the day.
I just took a trip down there and have about 20 photos of the bridge itself and another 50 or so of the surrounding area. They are all digital. Let me know if you would like to see them.
I found the pictures but I did not take very many. As I suspected I shot more video than still photos. They do have a website where you can order a cd of the ride and scenery. http://www.royalgorgeroute.com/
Sorry I cannot be more help.
This isn’t my picture and I don’t know where I found it but I will pass it on to you. Good luck with your layout and please post progress pictures for us to see.
email me and I will send it to you in the actual size or just go to Carl Weber’s page on rrpicturesarchives.net.
Well, depending on exactly what you want those sorts of things can have changed drastically through the years. So if you are trying to model 1960 they could be very different from today. I know a lot changed when the American with Disabilities act went into effect. Even the lookouts over the thing changed then… But may be Renegade1c(Chuck), jpmorrison(Jeff), and I can organize an expedition to get you the exact pictures you need!
the original bridge was built around 1879 and was narrow guage. I was wide enought to support standard guage but the need had no yet arisen. It was originally built by the Santa Fe during the Royal Gorge War. Here is a good article on it. http://www.raftecho.com/royalgorge-arkansasriver/denver-rio-railroad/ HOpe this helps
That will take a bit of research but the biggies are:
Center rail removed - 1911.
Suspension Bridge over the canyon - 1929.
Incline Railway to bottom - 1931.
Arial Tram - 1968.
Sky Coaster - 2003.
Starting with the above dates, I would guess the staircase down was in before the incline railway. But it was likely repositioned when the incline RR was built.
I do have a photo graph here with Theodore Roosevelt on the hanging bridge in 1905 and I don’t see ANY evidence of a staircase. Doesn’t mean it isn’t there, just certainly not in the view of the camera.
