If you thought it was unprototypical to model........

open autoracks in the modern era think again. I saw three of them today. They were the ones with roofs but no side pannels. One of them of Santa Fe.

Maybe there’s still hope for cabooses…

I see the same caboose a few times a day, everyday, on the local passing behind my shop. I also see open auto racks near the Ford Rouge plant. They still have a purpose.

Actually I have seen one or two pass through Cuero.

Neat!

RR Redneck, I have seen a couple cabooses on freight trains a while back too. Would’nt that be great if they all came back?

Cabooses (cabeese) will return on mainline runs about the same time steam makes it’s big comeback, along with covered wagons and stagecoaches. I think we will have to satisfy ourselves with catching them on locals where they still serve a purpose.

F-units?[;)]

Yes, we all know that.

Tongue was firmly ensconced in cheek when this was first suggested[;)]

saw the same as icmr plus saw 2 cabooses in the yards.

They are also used on mine runs where long reverse moves are made,

Hey, I’ve got GP7’s, GP9’s, F9’s, heavyweight passenger cars, and wood and steel cabeese passing my house all the time! I live right up the tracks from the Indiana Transportation Museum!

Oh wait,…maybe that doesn’t count then?

Alaska Railroad uses Cabooses on a daily Basis as they have lots of “Dark Territory” and trains dispatch themselves by radio. I thought is was really cool to see that a railroad still had them in use.
