If you're a train fan, read this.

I’ve been wondering, what makes us trainfans like trains so much. I get asked sometimes by “non-trainfans”, why do you like trains so much? I’ve been wondering the same thing. But I still like trains, that’s for sure.

If you know why we like trains so much, email me at breakingbenjamin4444@yahoo.com.

From, Fred

P.S. My name isn’t really fred, but why would I tell you my real name huh?

Toodaloo!

[:O] – DAN??? Bring the spray. Got another one!!!

See my web site for the reasons the RR thrills me. Chasing a train to me at least is real true rush. [:o)][:p][:)]

I like trains because I’m facinated by big ,noisey shiny objects. They are just so neeto. I just can’t help it, my eyes turn into pinwheels and I stare at them like I’m under hypnosis every time I see one. I have to carry a hanky with me just to wipe the drool off my mouth and shirt. Oh boy, oh boy [D)]

How do they find these forums??

I like trains for a couple of reasons. For one thing, they’re big, deafening, and when it comes to steam locomotives, you can hit 99% of the parts on a steamer with a hammer without worrying about breaking something. Also, you can get quite emotional about them.

In other words, sit back, relax, and think about a bunch of 2-10-2’s hauling 110 cars up the down track on Cajon, or an FEF-2 hauling the Overland Limited at 100 mph just 10 miles outside of the station.

(sniffing) Hmmmmmm…(sniffing) is that…(sniffing) rat I’m smelling?..

Nope, its Troll,
Kinda like burnt spaghetti covered in cat pee…

breakingbenjamin4444 fist and for most welcome to the forums. [#welcome].

The reason why I like trains…humm that’s a hard question to answer. lol. I have to say that the number one reason why I like trains is because of the big, huge, giganitic machines and I’m not just talking motive power here. I’m talking freight cars, and MOW equipment. I have to say for land vehicles it doesn’t get any better than trains.
I like the envirnment railroaders share with one another in terms of kindness and diversity. Which is somewhat opposite from the trucking industry’s envirnment. I also grew up with trains, being around Septa’s regional rail line 24/7 when I was little. Lastly, my great grandfather worked for the PRR, he loved his job and loved trains (though he didn’t tell too many people). Everyone in my family thinks his traits rubbed off on me.

Do you really have to have a reson? Paul

Why do some folks collect thimbles? And others spoons. Why do the residents of the People’s Republic of Boulder try to be modern day hippies? Why do trolls go trolling? If one enjoys it, and its legal and harms no one, does one have to have a reason for it?

Trains are so REAL, and so are trainfans. They like to figure things out, where that tank full of corn syrup is going, why a “foreign” carrier suddenly has locos dominating your favorite line. Trains are the ultimate “moving part.” And there are so many aspects to the hobby: photography, operations, computers, history, folklore . . .

Besides, have you ever tried following a Boeing 767?

I’m sorry, but sometimes I just have to correct spelling, and this I got a small laugh out of: “fist and for most.” I think you mean “first and foremost,” right [:)][:D]?

The power, for me, is probably what sells me on trains (I’m a little over 6’, but maybe I have a small-person’s complex anyway [:)]). From time to time, a train-related thing will leave my jaw dropped, and at times I have been know to cry (yes, CRY, rub it in my face) over abandoned railroads. The broad range of emotions and facets is truly vast (think–mainlines, shortlines, logging, funiculars, industrials), but the big, loud, dirty is what grabs me. On steam locomotives, when you go to tighten flexible staybolt caps. you get a socket, and a breaker bar, and to force them tightly, you get two guys on the breaker bar, jumping in unison. Try doing that on any household appliance and you’ll break it! (I can’t help but think that the people who think cars are macho are a little in the dark.) I’m clumsy, and my amount of finesse is miniscule (you would laugh at my golf

[banghead] Picture the little girl in "Poltergeist II " saying “they’re baaack!”

The best reason I heard is that the love of trains is a disease if, you catch it early and you have it forever. An operator of a live steam railroad said that he saw a lot of railroader, who at the age of 3 or 4 didn’t know that they were going to be railroader, but by the way they were hanging around the trains he knew.

Trains? (Isn’t this the Lord of the Rings forum?) Did they have trains in Middle Earth? I thought they just had Orcs, Cave Wights, and TROLLS!!

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve loved trains. especially model trains. To me there’s nothing like a replica of a real life object doing what it does- snake through the city, countryside, mountains, and so on. Switching is pretty cool too.

P.S.- Why do alot of you think this guy is a troll? Who really knows?
