Anyone familiar with these? I enjoy the camelback design, and have heard IHC is pretty decent. Any firsthand experience?
Thanks

Yes, picked one of them up about a year ago just because it was cheap, pretty decent little locomotive, decent detail and a really smooth running little engine. I’d say if you can snag one for $50 or less you’d have a very good engine at a good price.

I have several IHC engines, including the camelback, all run well with no problems. Very nice for the price.

As others have already indicated, IHC locomotives tend to be good runners, especially for the price. The down fall of the IHC camelback is its appearance, seemingly following no particular prototype and lacking accurate proportions. The locomotive’s cab is probably one of its greatest short-falls, being too small and cramped for the size of the boiler.
However, the IHC camelback shell does lend itself to modification and further detailing, along with the ability to have an IHC 4-4-0 mechanism swapped out with the 2-6-0 one that comes on the model, creating a light 4-4-0 camelback. Note, however, that IHC 4-4-0’s for such a project have become increasing difficult to find of late.
One of my IHC 4-4-0 camelbacks can be seen below.
