IHC diesel speed problem found

While I was studying the mechanism in my IHC C-628 to find a gear problem, I found out that the worm has two spirals going around instead of one. That makes it so the speed is doubled in the engines, making the gear ratio 9:1 meaning the motor turns 9 times to rotate the drivers once. I also found that Athearn worms will fit with some modifications, making the gear ratio 18:1 and cutting the speed in half. Now I have to find out exactly how to make the Athearn worms fit properly. The lower speed will give the diesels better low speed control and more torque.

That’s interesting to me. I’m always messing with gears and motors to get the best low speed operation. I like for my engines to be able to pull out the slack one car at a time!

You have to admit there is just something satisfying about bashing gears and stuff to make the best running engine possible. [:D]

Now, if I could just do that with a 70 tonner…
