IHC-Meheno locomotive tender

How do you get to the inside of an IHC-Meheno tender (2-6-0, 4-4-0)?

Jim

I did a search for IHC Mehano tender removal and found one link that is from this forum. The message says the tender is a snap fit. Pry it of with a thin knife of small jewelers screwdriver.

The message was, Need help with IHC Tender. Dated 4-2-2009.

Kadee has a page on their site for coupler replacement if you are interested. All Kadee says is to remove tender shell.

I had a question on the posting referenced above, but I finally figured it out.

There are three tabs on the underside at the ends - two at the rear, one at the front. Start at the front (its easier) and unlock the tab by pushing it toward the center of the tender while pulling the frame and tender body apart. Once the front is separated, the rear comes apart easily. If you start at the back, the tabs are also pushed to the center.

Note that the screw holding the trucks on are are secured by a free standing nut (not screwed into the frame). So if you remove the screw, the nut inside the tender will fall out of position and you will have an opportunity to practice the above procedure.

Glad you found it I really didn’t feel like taking mind apart…lol
