IHC Mogul Update

In the previous forums (Is it archived somewhere?) I asked for information regarding the IHC Mogul 2-6-0, giving the alot of assistance I recieved on this engine; I decided to go ahead and order one.

I dont know when I will see it arrive at the LHS but I sure hope that it is going to be a good little passenger engine. I will probably have to do a little on the shiny wheels and stuff when it gets here.

I’ll keep you updated.

I hope you like it. I’m very happy with mine, I just need to figure out how to put an operating front coupler on it.

How many passenger cars do you plan on pulling and how many grades on your layout?

Not very many. There is a set of 5 Roundhouse Overland 50’ Passenger cars with perhaps up to 2 milk cars or express from time to time.

The grades at my home dont exist but expect 2-3% on other people’s railroads.

If the Mogul cannot run that train on the steep grades, there is a BLI 2-8-2 mike that will pinch hit.

The operating coupler is something I might want to figure out someday. But not at this time. I dont mind factories putting a 2 dollar Kaydee on the front, why wont they DO IT??? SIGH!

It should handle 5 50’ passenger cars and a few milk cars fine on level grade, but it will almost certainly struggle on a 2-3% grade.

Well. I kinda feel bad for posting here about the engine.

After some consideration by the Financial Dept (Spouse) it was decided to choose one or the other for this passenger train and the BLI Light Mike won the selection due to it’s front coupler and pulling power, something that the Mogul does not really have.

I may still get one of those Moguls in the future perhaps as a test bed for decoder/sound installs as I advance into the DCC world. Maybe by then someone like BLI will actually make one with some heft and a front coupler.
