Was browsing the LHS and noticed that the new IHC 2-10-2 and 2-8-2’s are on sale.
The sale price for these engines was IMHO quite cheap. Are these engines being blown out by IHC all over the country?
I was so impressed that I picked up one of the 2-10-2’s myself. For what has been described as a generic engine the detail is quite good. It certainly would be a close second to the Spectrum offering in terms of detail.
I checked three places. Only Toy Train Heaven has them on sale of those three, and they are going for $117. I’d say that’s a reasonable price, not the $149 MSRP or what IHC sells them for on their site. What price were you looking at, Don?
MB Klein has the 2-10-2’s for $109 and the Mikes for $99. (they have the old Mikes for $59) I think the only difference is the blackened wheels and decoder plug.
What price did you see?
I’ve heard consistently good reports on the IHC 2-10-2 as far as running and pulling quality. Thinking about getting one for a ‘kit-bash’ myself. Those are good prices.
Me too. Though I’m gonna hubnt down a piece I saw online and make (non-articulated) Cab Forwards out of them. Would a Cab Forward modifyied Moutnain still be a Mountain, or would it become a Berkshire? [:D]
You could start a new argument similar to those that call a 4-8-8-2 a “Backwards Yellowstone”, LOL. (Everyone EXCEPT old SP steam engineers, that is [:-^] They just referred to them as “Malleys”)
I’ve seen those 2-10-2’s kitbashed into VERY respectable Canadian lokies, and the more I look at them, they could be kitbashed into a pretty respectable ATSF model, and with a LOT of kit-bashing, they could probably be made into a Rio Grande F-81. That lokie has a LOT of possibilities [:P].
