IHC Track Cleaning Car

I have an old IHC track cleaning caboose with a felt disc for the cleaning pad. Though not the greatest track cleaning car available, it does make a difference, despite not being able to drip fluid onto the pad any more. The pad isn’t worn, but it is getting pretty grimy. I have sort of cleaned it a couple of times with alcohol, if I remember correctly, but it has never really cleaned up completely. Does anyone have a suggestion of what to use to clean it? Since I could find nothing on the IHC site and Walthers had nothing similar, I want to take care of it.

Hate to think of buying a piece of felt to make a replacement, if I messed this one up. Don’t need much.

Thank you,

Richard

Richard,

Instead of trying to clean it,can’t you replace the pad, with a cut piece of corduroy, from a old shirt,or pair of pants. The corduroy acts like an abrasive on the track, without harming it…

Cheers,

Frank

Been a long time since I wore any of that, but I do think someone around the house has. Now to look for a piece of it I can use.

Thanks for the idea.

Richard

Gidday Richard, Haven’t used it for what you require but I will give dirty magneto cam follower felts a squirt of a plastic safe CRC electrical contact cleaner aerosol before relubing.

Cheers, the Bear.
