IHC

I know about the recent economic troubles IHC has, I have a layout design going and did some walthers scrounging, and their Victorian houses look like they fit where I want the best, however they are getting hard to find. They are not currently on the walthers site, but in the 2009 catalog if you want to check on it. If you know another maker that has similar row house I would like to know. Is IHC going to make a comeback or will the kits find another outlet, or what gives? I haven’t checked ebay at this writing, I already hit a LHS thinking they would have it, nada. Walthers search actually shows it but has a new number and the new number doesnt work, and not in stock.

IHC has gone totally out of business several months ago and is not likely to ever be resurected – the owner reportedly entered a nursing home and left nothing to any of the employees and never tried to find a buyer.

I can’t give you any better answers than the previous responder. However given how successful those building were/are It wouldn’t surprise me that if and when IHC’s affairs are settled ( through court or otherwise ) I’m sure someone will pick them up. I do a lot of city scenery seeing as I do a fair bit of streetcar modelling so I’ve kit bashed many a kit of those and built several as is. EBay’s generally has quite a few listed, but some people are pricing them like all things rare ( doubling costs etc ) I did notice though that Dans train Depot in Florida had several IHC lots on eBay as they seem to have a fair bit of old IHC stock. Other than that I’ve had luck and train shows and swap meets finding them.

I hope you have some luck in tracking them down as nobody else really does those type ( other than the odd craftsman style kits.) I know that faller/Vollmer/Pola have many European style townhouse, generally taller with a lot of “gingerbread” or half timbered detail, these could be modified but cost a lot more than the IHC kits.

Good luck

Rob

As noted, IHC is gone.

But; IHC did not actually ever make anything, it was all contracted to various suppliers such as Mehano (now also bankrupt). So the tooling probably still exists…
