Two of them were Haleyville, Alabama and Birmingham, Alabama. IC had running rights over the Southern from Haleyville to Jasper and then Frisco from Jasper to Birmingham. I was told by some IC men years ago that they took over at Haleyville and ran to Birmingham.
the city of miami did not go to NO new orleans…someone has their trains mixed up…the city of miami went of course to Miami, Fl and used several foreign roads…maybe gmo&o/southern/frisco/c of g/seaboard…not really sure…it diverged from the city of new orleans route at fulton, ky and made its way to birmingham…after that not sure. I rode it and the seminole and got different explanations of which railroad we were on but am sure it used Frisco from Jasper alabama to birmingham
The City of Miami was originally operated by four railroads on its way to Miami: the IC from Chicago to Birmingham, the Central of Georgia from Birmingham to Albany, Georgia, the Atlantic Coast Line from Albany to Jacksonville, and the Florida East Coast from Jacksonville to Miami. It did run over GM&O tracks from near Jackson, Tennessee to near Corinth, Mississippi, over Southern track from Haleyville, Alabama, to Jasper, Alabama, and over Frisco track from Jasper into Birmingham–all through trackage rights agreements.
Always amazes me when passengers on the SW Chief in KS believe that the engineers and conductors boarded the train in Los Angeles. Waste of time to explain how crew districts work and hours of service because the general public, w/no knowledge of the rr, would not be able to figure it out.
