Illinois Central E7 livery

Dear friends,

I’d like to know something about IC E7 livery. In fact, I’ve seen a photo on the web showing a usual maroon/orange livery IC E7. Nevertheless, this unit had besides two yellow stripes on body sides: precisely, the photo was dated to March, 3, 1950. Now, how long did IC E7 have the above mentioned yellow stripes/maroon/orange livery? Which lines did it cover?

Thank a lot for your replying.

ETR_500:

A 1950’s era photo could possibly have been a hand colored photo, and the area you are seeing as maroon, was actually a brown. I do not know the specificity of the color tint, but it might be described as a mid range brown, [tending to the lighter shade]. Possibly another reader might supply more technical information on the colors.

I can telly you that it was ,to me, a teriffic combination, and at speed the trains resembled a speeding orange and brown snake, and unless stopped in a station, they were generally at speed. [:D]

The orange/brown/ with yellow stripping livery lasted right up to the end of Illinois Central’s own passenger operations.

The orange and dark brown scheme w/ the 2 yellow stripes originated on the 1942 Panama Limited and continued until around 1950 (?) when they were dropped but the remainder of the scheme was kept. Sometime later the nose design was simplified but the colors retained. When you have one of the best psgr color schemes, why change? (attn SP and GN!)
