Illinoisian Roll Call, lets hear from you

Jo, I sent you an email.

Hello LS1Heli:

I grew up in Darien. I am now in Clarendon Hills, only minutes away. How long have you been in the area?

Regards,

JO

Oak Lawn IL. here.

Hi,

I’m an Illinoisian in excel down here in the “Great State of Texas”…

Born in Chicago (44), lived mostly on the northwest side (California/Diversey) near the C&NW, lived/worked in Joliet from 73 to 77 at Mobil’s Joliet refinery, and then moved on to Texas. Spent childhood summers in Anna Illinois (wayyyy down south) at Grandmom’s, right next to the IC speedway. It had 4 tracks, two mains, one passing siding, and one freight siding.

I often miss Illinois - especially in the Spring/Summer/Fall, but rarely in the winter…

ENJOY!

JO,

My entire life! Live off of 75th!

In response to a suggestion made by Buckeye Riveter, I am proposing the formation of ITTS, the Illinois Toy Train Society. This secret and powerful toy train society will recognize those Illinoisans (and those friendly to the interests of Illinoisans) for their contributions to the toy train hobby. Are you Illini game?

To start this off, I would nominate Doug (CNW1995) Murpy and Paul “PBJ Wilson” has the initial members given their tireless commitment to the toy train community. If those gentlemen are interested, I will create the certificates and they will be members #1 and #2.

Regards,

John

I want Illinois, to beat the NOT ANY LIONS of PA. every year do I count?

laz57

Oh yea, I also stick for DA BEARS.

laz57

Buckeye - you make me proud! [^]

Laz:

As far as I am concerned, you’re in. Be careful, Lionroar88 may have something to say to you. [;)]

Regards,

John

Long gone from where the Illinois Central crossed the TP&W. Can you guess where that was? My dad would take me down to see the last IC steam engines come through. Then, I wondered why. Now I know he knew something was passing, forever to be gone, and he wanted to give me that memory. A few years later, he was gone.

Be careful John about admitting members into ITTS from PA. The next thing you know they will take over your organization and name it PITTS. [:D] I would also be concerned about admitting members from Tennessee. [:-^]

Thank you, Tom…I just continue working on our membership roles. We have had inquiries from Texas and Michigan about membership in OTTS. Needless to say I am still checking their references. Doesn’t look good for the Texan.

What a most excellent idea, John. I’m game to go ahead. ITTS will take anyone anyones sent, in true Chicago fashion, provided they know the password and bring the right membership ‘gift’

Hello Doug:

I am sending you and e-mail. Let me know what you think.

Regards,

John

Doug,

You know better than that. In Chicago you’re supposed to make a call to your alderman to write a reference letter for you. In exchange you make a campaign contribution and scrounge up a few more votes, even if it’s you voting early and often.

Jack

Jack, I guess I should have said in the time-honored fashion of the party ‘machine’ during the reign of Daley Da First… “We don’t want nobody nobody sent.”

Here are a couple of my favorites:

“The police are not here to create disorder, they are here to preserve disorder”

“If you can’t help your family (with city jobs) who can you help?”

Richard J. Daley

[:D]

How about: “Shoot and shoot to kill!” That was a headline quote from mayor Richard J. Daley to his police force during some riots (1968?). That calmed things down in a hurry, mostly because he meant it.

Chief, don’t get any ideas.

Jack

Hey, look what I got…

Hey Paul!!! [:D] I got something for you if you want it. It’s a Lionel “I Love Illinois” boxcar shell. It is ONLY the shell and does NOT include the frame, doors, door clips, or brake wheel. If you have a 9700 series boxcar that you wouldn’t mind cannibalizing, you would be all set. Let me know and I’ll send it out to you. PM me your address. [tup]

Here’s a pic of the complete boxcar:
