I'm back in 2001 in my MRR cull

Time has really been flying. I am sitting here thumbing through Feb 2001 issue cutting out the interesting bits in my quest to clean up and file away stuff I might use in the future. There is an advert in the back announcing the launch of Trains.com and these very forums on Jan 8th 2001!

The Atlas Commander DCC and the Atlas 3 stall roundhouse are reviewed as new products. There are articles on setting up block control, numerous companies that don’t exist or have changed ownership are advertising.

I had not realized how much things have changed in the last 6 years. Small 1/8th page ads for the big boys in DCC. No sound locos. Athearn announcing its premiere release in its new Ready-to-roll line a F59PHI.

It will be curious what the next 6 years brings.

hopefully cheaper prices, but the hobby never works likes that. It is interesting too see how the hobby is advancing, I remember when dcc was new and intimidating. Still kinda new but much more user friendly. Hopefully the next 6 years will be even better.

I love looking at the advertisements from the early 1960’s. That seems to be when the first generation suppilers (wood & tin) were giving way to the 2nd generation plastic kits & locos.

AHM 4-4-0 Reno $18.75, Big Boy 4-8-8-4 $39.99 in 1967.

What ever happened to the big roll out of ‘e-trains’ - anyone know the story of that. They sure spent alot of advertisement cash on it.

e- anything got alot of money back in those days.
