I am about to start building an outdoor railway in HO gauge and want to know if anyone can tell me how far apart to put the supports etc, I will be driving posts in for the purpose, I was looking at a post say every 6 feet and a 4 X 1 each side of the post on their side running between them and the bed going on top of them would this be adequate? I reckon it would the job.
My track is a plank on post system. I use 150x50 mm on top of two 25x50mm stretchers arranged like this TT. I can stand on it, I weigh 105Kg -but I am 205cm tall.
So far it has stood up to everything I have run on it. The distance between the posts, (which are 100mm sq), varies from 1m to 2m -depending on the curve of the track.
regards
