I'm home now and starting a new project

I went home on Saturday and received a rental power chair to use til I can walk again. These things are dangerous if you fail to follow ALL of the safety precautions. Number one is turn off the power when you are stopped and trying to reach something like at the bathroom sink. I forgot and when I reached to turn on the water at the sink I bumped the joystick and smashed some toes in the facia board. Nothing serious it just hurt like heck for about 10 minutes.

I’ve decided to start on my Wright Trak Waffle Side Southern boxcar kit. The body and floor were somewhat warped when I opened the box but that may have been due to it sitting in my mailbox for a few days before it was retrieved. Running hot water from the tap over it enabled me to bend it back straight. Contrary to the instructions the roof is molded as part of the body, but the doors are separate, take note Exactrail fans. So if there are any of this style boxcars out there with different doors they would be easy to replace. Once I actually get started I will post some progress pictures.

Bob, I hear ya about hitting your foot. I am glad there isn’t any more harm done to you. A few years ago, I had a nail go through my right foot. The doctor said it was fine, but a day later, my foot was swollen I could hardly walk. For about a week I hobbled around the house. One night I had to get up in the middle of the night and stubbed my little tow on that foot on the corner of chest of drawers. Boy, that’ll get your attention really quick.

Any way, I hope you get fully recovered and hang in there.

Well, welcome back home Bob hope all is proceeding well for you. Have you resolved the bathroom door situation yet. We have alittle half-bath behind the garage so I just removed the door to give me more access.

I hear you on those “power” wheelchairs, they can get a person in trouble, I relagated mune to the basement because it sits higher then me regular “manual” chair, also felt I need all the excercise I can get at this point in time.

Well, I hope everything stays “on track” for you, take care and watch out for that “joy stick”!!!

Mark

Welcome back. Take some pictures of that car when you are done.

Welcome back. You’re one step closer to getting the layout going again [:)].

I had rotator cuff surgery about 15 years ago. Looking back on it now, the most unpleasant thing that I still recall was not the pain and the inconvenience, it was the hospital food. So, in time, you’ll forget most everything else.

I mean, how can they mess up Mac & Chesse?

Anyway, welcome back to the real world, and particularly back to kitbuilding.

Well glad your back Bob and on the road to recovery but don’t take this the wrong way but just be glad none of your friends were around because that must have been funny as hell. I know mine would have been laughing hysterically I am probably the only person in the state that got a broken foot from one of those danged things after some old lady ran my foot over in the super market… Again glad your back and modeling again.

Ditto on the Rotator Cuff surgery on the left shoulder about eleven years ago. After 4+ months of Physio I still could not move my arm out to the side but I could ALMOST raise it to level out to the front with a lot of effort. Seven months later they finally got me in for surgery. I was lucky though. NO HOSPITAL FOOD. Day surgery only. In at 7:00AM and kicked out at 12:30 PM. Now I am scheduled for another bout of surgery for a torn Rotator Cuff on my right shoulder. Again, another seven month wait from May 8/10 when the MRI showed a complete tear until I go in for surgery on Nov.3/10. Hopefully no hospital food again. At least this time my arm is at least mobile for the most part although there is a fair bit of discomfort and continual ache down the right arm.

Woody, just take care while you are racing around the house on your little scooter. Remember, NO WHEELIES.[(-D]

Get well soon.

Blue Flamer.

Hey, glad you’re home! Even when one is “inconvenienced” home is better than the hospital! I spent an entire month on my back, in bed, in the hospital after a spinal fusion. The only good thing is the “war stories” that come out of this way down the road. Glad you’ve been up for posting while you’re adjusting to a situation that was so unfair. Hang in there and maybe take a pass on jello for awhile? Glad you can be home now.
