I'm new here

Hello all, as the subject line states, I’m new here. & in a way new to model railroading although I’ve been around model railroads & trains all my life as my dad has always been a keen model railroader. I have subscribed to both real & model railway magazines in the past but not currently due to economic reasons & consider myself to be reasonably conversant in railroading terms. Thing is, I’ve just acquired all my dads’ trains as his health has deteriorated & he can no longer enjoy the hobby. He has spent the last 20 years in retirement building up his layout which takes up a lot of his double garage so has had a good innings with his much loved hobby. Unfortunately he has unavoidably let things go to the pack a little in his shed recently & I have had quite a job tidying up in there including some very dirty model trains. I’ve spent a lot of time cleaning up his 30 or so HO locos & still need to clean up the 130-140 odd items of HO rolling stock, which will take me some time as I live some 2 hours drive from my dads’ place.

I’m a stickler for details, mainly model numbers, their rego/road numbers, model manufacturer sku numbers etc & there are quite a lot of models that I’m having some trouble identifying. Many hours have been spent googling & reading the net & I have been reasonably successful so far. The following items are giving me much trouble;
2-8-0 steamer, Union Pacific, road # 319 color: black (I am fairly sure this is an MDC item).
Boxcab?, Maintenance of Way, road # 651 color: black (believe this may also be an MDC item).
Climax?, DRGW, no road #, color: yellow & black (similar chassis to above item).

Any information about these 3 items, both the models & original prototypes would be greatly appreciated. I can put together a roster of all his locomotive models, will take me a few days though.

^Obligatory

Welcome to the hobby, and the forums. We don’t bite much. But in general, we are crazy

Pictures would be greatly appreciated. If the Boxcab and the Climax share a chassis, then they are MDC/Roundhouse things. I’ll dig up a pic.

EDIT: Does this look familar? http://media.photobucket.com/image/Roundhouse%20Climax/richg1998/Climax%20Locomotive/ClimaxA.jpg

How about this? http://media.photobucket.com/image/MDC%20Boxcab/GS4Daylight/BCW31.jpg That model is a track cleaner, hence the canisters up front. Your likely doesn;t have them.

Hi, thanks for the welcome, yup those look like my items, here’s some actual photos of what I have;

I LOVE that A4. And the DD35 still looks crsip (it says DD40, but it’s closer to a 35.)

Yup, my A4 has never been run since I bought it from the shop, I was going to run it on my dads’ layout but never got around to it, hahahaha. It’s a limited edition model with only 3000 pieces released & has spent most of its life sitting in that cabinet. And the DD-40 will have had very little use, it’s the twin motor version too! I believe the DD-40 was never actually developed, only designed on paper & the scale model was accurately manufactured from that plan. Instead EMD produced the DD-35 which was very similar. If my information serves me correctly.
