Yesterday I had the chance to say home with my son, so I took the young boy out for some railfanning, but made the mistake to think that I was only go to be out for a short time and heck when you’ve seen a couple UP’s you’ve seen them all. So I didn’t take my camera, big mistake. first off the bat as we pull up to the Pomona Station, a SD60M and a GP60 went by with the SD on the lead and both were facing long end first. Never had I seen a modern UP engines facing backwards. I’m sure they were doing some switching but still.
Then as we were heading for home, our last train had to be the peak of it all. The lead engine was a brand new painted SD40-2 in a SD45 shell. So SD45 aren’t dead and the new UP paint job was beautiful (as much as a UP could be)
Now my Camera doesn’t leave my side. Has anybody else had a day like this?
Yea Zak, but I don’t stress on it. Sometimes I just prefer to watch without bothering with the camera and I have missed a lot of opertunities. Like not haveing my camera when I got a personal tour of Loram’s RG-8 railgrinder. Or the time I saw SP&S 700 in the george.
I’m not kidding about never seeing a head power of UP facing backwards in California or any other state that UP runs through. And I’ve seen a lot of UP too.
