I'm on the wrong forum

I want to preseve a piece of Americana rairoad history but most on this forum want to talk about Coffee shops or other junk like that. Have I decided this is the wrong place to be? Let me know.

Yes you are

What do you want to talk about? There are a lot of good folks here who are willing to discuss railroad history. You’re in a good place. Give it a chance for a while.

mike

Dont listen to railfan.

What do you mean “most”? Do you know how many of us are here that actually have lives we live outside the forums and pretty much come for actual rail related topics?

Have you decided this is the wrong forum? good question, but if you don’t know, how would we? [:D]

I love to learn about railroad history! Hmm, what do you suppose the Classic Trains section is about, couldn’t be old trains could it.

Read you posting about trying to perserve some D&RGW narrow guage…
since it is a new posting, and the people who could give you some advice work odd hours or odd days, like the mudchicken, (who by the way, most likely has a few names and a few people you could contact, besides being a living Colorado railroad history lesson) are not logged on in a regular basis…give it a few days before you get disgusted too with us.

By the way, did you contact your local NHRS, and see if a local member might be a lawyer willing to do someof the legal work pro bono?

(1) The piece of railroad in question is standard gauge. (It was only narrow gauge 1886-1890 and they laid the track with standard gauge ties. The writing was on the wall when standard gauge Colorado Midland showed up in the Roaring Fork Valley within a month of D&RG)

(2) With the exception of 1000 feet of track between Grand Ave and 27th in Glenwood, the remaining track is totally unfit for ANY kind of passenger service, would never make FRA Class 1 minimum and you cannot haul passengers on FRA excepted track.

(3) The proposal for excursion service is totally unrealistic and it’s clear nobody still pushing the issue can understand the fiscal responsibility involved. NOT VIABLE, PERIOD…

(4) Don’t fight RFTA/RFHA, these are the only folks trying to preserve the corridor for rail service. Until there is $$ for commuter rail in the valley, RFTA continues to try to preserve the line for future use.

(5) Beware of a certain County Commisioner, his good-old-boy /land-swindler budz and the crooks at A&K who are trying to still find a way to kill RFTA, take the money & run and sell off the R/W in pieces to the highest bidder.

Where were you guys in 1996-97 when there still was a slight chance to keep the RR operable with its existing plant? The horse is long out of the barn. (Snowman met the guy that studied the line back then and said there was a chance, and then nothing happened for 8 years except neglect - same guy that talked to daughter about England[;)])

'nuf sed…[banghead][banghead][banghead]

You know,
I really ought to broil the boots before I stick one in my mouth…

Have seen photos of the line mentioned…there is nothing there to preserve…what track still exist I wouldn’t run a speeder over, much less a train, and most of the track is so deep in the weeds that you would have to replace the entire structure, ties, rail, ballast, bridges…non of it is usable.

If you have someone who wants the ROW to hold for a future rail line, go with that idea…unless you have several million dollars and a lot of volunteers experienced in building track.
You will never run a train over what’s there now, it is beyond rehabilitation, all of it has to be replaced, from the sub road up…maybe even that would have to be redone.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but you flogging a dead horse here…

Ed

Ed, you may not know it but the local railroad museum does and has run a speeder over that track. Looks like I got a few people riled up, sorry that was not my intention,
