Ok…i have a strange question. Now im sure most of you know from my posts here that i primaraly model a Freelance railroad…and my 2 favorites are the BC Rail and the CN. Now its often difficult to get the type of BCR and CN stuff that i want beaouse of the different cabs, bodys, so on and whatever. So i do also model 2 US railroads. The SP and the D&RGW and i have a great deal of stuff from both…more D&RGW tho, and if i see something in those roads that i like i will pick it up. Now my question is this. I know st-UP-id wants to put a surcharge on all their CRAP, but will it carry over to the roads that they bought and subsequently own the rights to? Such as the SP, D&RGW, C&NW, MP, WP and all the other stuff they have eaten over the years. I think if i look hard enuf i might find some UP freight cars on my layout…but i really dont own any or have any plans on buying any…and i think putting a charge on their crap is stUPid and will not get them that far ahead…BUT…what if they plan on using all the other roads they own the rights to and have the reporting marks for? That may actually add up in the long run.
Oh well…i was just thinking about this and was wondering if anyone knows if that will happen or what your thoughts were on it if it does.
they were going to charge for the fallen flags that they have the rights to, but they just lost that fight in court. last i heard, they will not be able to enforce their copywright on all the fallen flags.
someone on the Atlas forum posted links to the court cases, but atlas is down till the 5th.
i wonder if Athearn is going to issue a refund to all of us that bought UP fallen flags locomotives that they jacked up the prices on due to this UP bull?
I think that stUPid will not give up on their horrible copyright plan. but I sure hope they will. I love the Southern Pacific and I think that Union Pacific (we can’t handle anything) should not have this same plan on their predacessors. Another reason to hope that UP (Building America, dropping the number of UP modelers) buys no more fallen flags.
That’s what happens when you put the bean counters in charge of a corporation. Their only interest is the bottom line on the profit sheet, regardless of what they have to do to get there. Maybe we could start a rumor that the UP is going to hire lawyers to go around the country and inventory every modeler’s engines and rolling stock and assess a fee based on how much UP and/or fallen flags items you own – [:D]
