image effect of local maintenance on locos?

That’s the best short title I can think of.[%-)]

What I’m thinking of is the fact that I’ve seen pics of Santa Fe locos with the bigyellow SANTA FE all mixed up by hood doors being switched around/replaced by available doors.

I’ve also seen pics of odd panels in primer.

…amd again I’ve seen pics of locos flaring excess fuel off the turbo lag (IIRC).

So, as I now have two nice rather messy Conrail SDs and a shiny new one coming I’m wondering about weathering the new one to look like it has been well worn / got messy but then gone through the shops for several quick “plug in” repairs.

Does this make sense?

I’m particualay wondering if the panel around the exhaust might be shiny new blue or primer… or maybe the panels - or just odd panel - around the dynamic brake fans would be newly replaced?

Any pics or ideas anyone please?

Thanks

It might look something like THIS (check the nose logo), which I caught at Marion OH some time ago. It’s an interesting modeling concept if not overdone.

This where you should locate a photograph of a specific unit and model it. Then there is no guess work.

This is one area where what ever you decide to do " there is a prototype somewhere." I have replaced/seen replaced every single door/ hatch/cover combination you can think of. the most common ones tended to be the access door for the DB grids, and doors where the lube oil dipstick or start station are located.
